Last weekend, Nikšić was surrounded by environmental actions. Volunteers led by Ecopatriotism, and organized by Zero Waste Montenegro, cleaned the bed and banks of the Gračanica river, while employees of the "Trebjesa" Brewery and members of the NGO "Paths of the Ancestors" organized an action to reforest the Trebjesa forest park.

As Ivana Čogurić, from Ecopatriotism, told "Vijesta", word got out that they "clean well", so this year the young hard-working ladies were the hosts of the International Coastal Day campaign, which was celebrated a week later in Nikšić due to bad weather.

"Last year, Ecopatriotism was a guest at the action organized by Zero Waste Montenegro and cleaned the coast of Bistrica. We were housewives and together with the other volunteers we visited Gracanica, whose stream was killed. That's exactly why we decided to visit this river, because man's hand, oil and work have gone too far. We were greeted by intense work and terrain. We collected 350 kilograms of waste, which we bought by hand and sorted on the spot so that later during the audit we could see which are the biggest polluters today. We also had support from the Secretariat for the Environment, which sent us a truck and a bucket that picked up as much as nine tons of waste," said Čogurić.

Gračanica has been a "dead river" for years, crying out in vain to bring it back to life.

"It was bought with a fist, a hat and a spoon, but our work was again imperceptible because Gračanica was destroyed on an unbelievable scale and covered with garbage. The defeat of a society lies precisely in this neglect of the self, which is closely connected with the entire system of the planet Earth. We knew that we wouldn't physically do too much at this location, but as far as we are concerned, we have done enough - pulled the thread of the river that forgot its course because of us," said Ivana.

Brewers and members of the NVU "Paths of Ancestors" planted 500 spruce and pine trees, as well as five cedar trees, in Trebjesa.

"Every tree we planted is a pledge for a healthier and more beautiful future. That's why for several years, in cooperation with NVU 'Paths of the Ancestors', we have been making the favorite picnic spot of Nikšić even greener. Together, we have planted more than 1.500 trees in the Trebjesa forest park, believing that only through continuous actions we can leave a positive ecological footprint, and we remain committed to that," said Natalija Đordan, manager of corporate affairs in Pivara.

The afforestation action is part of the Nikšićko Green platform and a continuation of the previous cooperation between the Brewery and the mentioned non-governmental association.

Ana Petrović Njegoš from the NVU "Paths of the Ancestors" said that the Trebjese site has a special value and importance for the citizens of Nikšić, so they focus their attention on the preservation of its green areas and reforestation with numerous actions.

"From action to action, we contribute to the common goal, which is a greener Trebjesa. That is why we are always particularly pleased with the support that Pivara gives us. Both with the seedlings themselves and with the volunteerism of the company's employees and our members, we are leaving a legacy that will be a source of pride for future generations," said Petrović Njegoš.
