Adequate storage of vaccines is of key importance for effective immunization, UNICEF announced, stating that for this reason they provided Montenegrin health institutions with 17 special refrigerators.

The head of the UNICEF representative office in Montenegro, Juan Santander, said that vaccines are the safest way to protect children from life-threatening diseases.

"In order for them to be effective, it is necessary to ensure their adequate storage. UNICEF will continue to support the health system of Montenegro in order to further improve the storage and distribution of vaccines", Santander pointed out.

Minister of Health Dragoslav Šćekić thanked UNICEF for continuously providing support and assistance to the health system of Montenegro.

"And this type of assistance, which enables the safe storage of vaccines, is of great importance for their safety and further use," said Šćekić.

Director of Montefarm Goran Marinović said that cooperation with UNICEF resulted in numerous, extremely significant donations, both to that health institution and to the entire public health sector in Montenegro, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The support we had through the valuable donation of the vaccine storage, preservation and distribution chamber, as well as the accompanying modern equipment, improved and expanded the existing "cold chain" system in Montefarm," said Marinović.

As UNICEF said, new special refrigerators with voltage stabilizers provide optimal conditions, because they work without significant changes in storage temperature, even if they are opened and closed several times a day.

According to them, in the event of a power outage, these refrigerators allow the internal temperature to remain stable for a long period of time, thus ensuring the highest quality of vaccines.

UNICEF reminded that during the past two years, they have provided Montenegro with equipment, medicines and other consumables for Kovid-19 and immunization worth over 1,2 million euros.

"UNICEF will continue to provide this type of support to Montenegro in the coming period, including within the framework of the partnership with the European Union," the statement added.
