Airports of Montenegro (ACG), on the eve of the celebration of the International White Cane Day on October 15, presented the infrastructure that enables the independent movement and functioning of visually impaired people.

As announced by ACG, the executive director of that company, Vladan Drašković, presented the results of the project "Innovative transport services for people with complete and partial visual impairment - DANOVA" funded by the European Union at the Podgorica airport.

The executive director of the Association of the Blind, Goran Macanović, congratulated ACG, adding that it is now a pleasure for people with totally and partially impaired vision to be their users.

"Montenegro's airports are now perhaps the most accessible institution for visually impaired people," said Macanović.

He stated that every visually impaired tourist at the ACG will be greeted by tactile strips leading to passport control and added that they will have priority when crossing the border.

"I hope that ACG will be an example to system institutions and companies that provide services to the general public, how they should improve their services", said Macanović.

The president of the Organization of the Blind for Bar and Ulcinj, Veselin Joketić, said that he was delighted with the kindness and discretion of the ACG staff, as well as the guide paths, tactile letters and orientation map.

Project manager on behalf of ACG, Nina Planinić, said that at Podgorica airport, a tactile guide path and an orientation plan in Braille were installed at Podgorica airport, as well as numbers in the form of larger exits.

At the Podgorica airport, a video wall was installed in the terminal building, for better accessibility and viewing of all important information such as flight schedules.

As announced, at the airports in Podgorica and Tivat, local microphones have been installed at the information desks, passenger and baggage registration counters, and passport control counters, which facilitate communication with the staff.

At both airports, contrast tapes have been installed in toilets for persons with disabilities (PWDs), as well as Braille signage at information desks, passenger and baggage check-in and passport control counters, and on the doors of PWD toilets.

As stated, the official website of the ACG for people with completely and partially impaired vision has been installed and adapted.

"ACG will continue to be an example of positive practice in all spheres, especially in the context of equal treatment, respect for the personality and dignity of persons with disabilities," said Planinić.

She reminded that previously some of the ACG employees, who are in direct contact with passengers, successfully completed practical training aimed at improving ground handling services for passengers with complete and partial vision impairment.
