In Podgorica, especially in the city center where the local and state administration is located, it is almost impossible to find a place to park, but this does not mean that the city company "Parking service" contributes much to the Podgorica budget.
On the contrary, according to the official data of the Tax Administration, the "Parking service" contributes very modestly to the city coffers on an annual basis, regardless of the fact that it also manages arranged parking spaces along the roads, for which an SMS must be sent.
One gets the impression that this company is actually working to pay its employees, so the question is how much the new "Parking service" project - "Oko sokolovo" will contribute to the city budget, which, according to the announcement, should detect and regulate the issue of reckless drivers who they park illegally on pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, in places designated for people with disabilities, but also control parking fees.
In the previous four years, for which the company's financial statements are available (from 2018 to 2021), "Parking service" earned almost 5,9 million euros.
Of that, about 4,9 million euros went to the salaries of employees, and slightly more than 700 thousand euros to the city coffers.
In 2018, the revenues of the "Parking service" amounted to 1.305.896, and only the expenses for salaries amounted to 1.267.546 euros. At the end of that year, the city enterprise met with a surplus of only 134.121 euros, together with other income.
2019 was somewhat better - revenues amounted to 1.481.706 euros, 1.236.501 went to employee salaries, and the year ended with 257.659, which the company diverted to the city coffers.
It is interesting that the parking fee in 2020, when almost the entire country was closed for two months due to the coronavirus, was better than in 2018. That year, "Parking Service" earned 1.405.252 euros, while wages went to 1.183.451, and only 2020 in the city coffers at the end of 124.276.
"Parking service" last year recorded a record collection in a four-year period - 1.663.137 euros. However, 1.195.945 euros went to employee benefits, and 218.510 remained in the treasury.
The company, on the other hand, as they recently announced, continues with the modernization of services, "all with the aim of improving traffic conditions at rest".
They presented the "Oko sokolovo" project, a special car that will cruise the streets of Podgorica and, through video surveillance, check whether drivers have properly parked their cars.
"Thanks to this system, illegal parking on pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, in places designated for people with disabilities will be regulated, but parking fees will also be controlled. In addition, the work process will be accelerated, especially in the segment of billing and field operations of parking control, and the introduction of new technologies will also improve the records of parked vehicles, which will increase the efficiency of the work of this company", the Parking Service announced recently.
