Abazović: It is extremely important that the investigative journalism of Montenegrin journalists is recognized outside the borders of our country

Prime Minister in technical mandate Dritan Abazović congratulated this year's winners of the European Union awards for investigative journalism, which were presented yesterday at the Media Conference of the EU and the Western Balkans.

"It is extremely important for media freedom, truth and justice that the investigative journalism of Montenegrin journalists is recognized outside the borders of our country," said Abazović, according to a statement from the Government of Montenegro.

Among the award-winning journalists from Montenegro are Mihailo Jovović, journalist and editor of "Vijesti", who won the first prize for the series of stories about the secret flights of the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, then Đurđa Radulović, journalist of CIN-CG for the text about the fires and the documentary film " Fires in Montenegro: Causes and Consequences", which won the second prize, as well as Marko Vešović and Vladimir Otašević, who won the third prize for the documentary film "Crime Secrets - The Murder of Duško Jovanović", directed by Rado Jocović.

As written in the announcement, Abazović emphasized the responsible role of investigative journalists in Montenegro who, pointing out the problems and socio-political anomalies of the past three decades, were often the target of attacks, injuries, and even murders.

"I am convinced that these awards for the winners will be an incentive for an even more determined fight for truth and justice as an unsurpassed ideal of a democratic society, but also a motivation for other journalists to continue working in the same direction," concluded Abazović.
