Đurović: We must leave children with the best foundations for personal and professional affirmation

I want your only concerns to be school and to remain children as long as possible, to preserve children's innocence, humanity and selfless love for your neighbors and the world around you, which only you possess, announced the President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović.

She said this on the occasion of November 20, International Children's Day, when she congratulated the children in Montenegro.

"I congratulate you on your day, with the wish that you spend your childhood carefree, in happiness, joy and socializing with your peers," the announcement states.

As he says, "caring for children is caring for the future of the country, and we must take care to leave you the best foundations for personal and professional affirmation and progress in every sense".

Đurović appeals to all social factors to make a maximum contribution in the direction of improving the position of children in Montenegro and solving all the problems they face, which he says are not few.

He emphasizes that, "one of the priorities to solve is certainly poverty and the risk of poverty in which the youngest members of our society live, and according to the UNICEF study "Multidimensional poverty of children in Montenegro" from May 2021, there are almost 46.000 , that is, one out of three children in Montenegro lives below the threshold that indicates the risk of poverty".

Đurović reminded that the MPs of the 27th convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro adopted legal solutions by which child allowances were returned first to children up to six years of age, and then to all children up to 18 years of age. Also, they introduced free textbooks for all primary school students, thus helping parents in fulfilling all the obligations that education brings.

However, Đurović says that this is not enough.

"The state must continue to work actively to improve the position of our children because their happiness and well-being must be the point around which we will gather and reach adequate agreements and solutions."

As he says, he is concerned about "the increasingly frequent occurrence of hate speech and peer violence among children and young people in Montenegro. Every form of violence has consequences for children's psychological health and therefore it is important to recognize and eradicate it as soon as possible".

That's why he emphasizes that "all relevant institutions, such as schools, centers for social work, the police, the judiciary and health centers, must join forces in every local community and contribute to dealing with this phenomenon and building a culture of non-violence".

Đurović adds that they want "our children to feel that the Parliament of Montenegro is their house, whose doors are always open to them and which will always work exclusively for their benefit".

"As the president of the Parliament of Montenegro, I can guarantee that every legal act whose goal is to improve the position of our young generations will have the support of the highest legislative chamber," Đurović concluded.
