Marijana Čvorović, vice-president of the Youth Forum of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said that the data on the number of women in Montenegro who were victims of violent behavior in various ways is alarming.
"More brutal than that is the silence and non-reaction of state institutions, which unfortunately often results in deaths," said Čvorović.
As she pointed out, the International Day against Violence Against Women is a special date, but also another day of the year when we must loudly and openly stand by the women in Montenegro and all those who suffer any form of violence.
She said that we witness year after year that violent behavior becomes more and more visible and present, but the terrible inertness of institutions and the judicial system is also visible, which often pass over the reported case without giving it adequate importance.
It is precisely because of such (non)sanctioning by the competent institutions that we have multiple returnees to violence and those who are encouraged by such examples, knowing that such behavior will go unpunished.
"Once again, I call on the institutions, socio-political actors and the public of Montenegro that the topic of violence against women should not only be advertising and "harsh condemnation" for a few days when the cases are current, but to establish an adequate approach and restrictive punishment of abusers and to enable women to be free and without fear to report every case without any doubt as to whether the authorities will treat the case as relevant," Čvorović concluded.
