Members of the Women's Club of the Assembly and the Committee for Gender Equality are protesting against hate speech and attacks on women

They said that the latest example of an attack on women was the blatant hate speech by lawyer Velibor Marković, with, as it is added, extremely tasteless allusions to the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, Aneta Spajić.

The members of the Women's Club of the Assembly and the Committee for Gender Equality are protesting most strongly because of hate speech and sexist attacks on women from social and political life and representatives of foreign missions and embassies in Montenegro.

In the announcement of the Women's Club, it is reminded that today is the Day of the fight against violence against women.

As stated, the latest example of attacks on women is the blatant hate speech of lawyer Velibor Marković, with, as it is added, extremely tasteless allusions to the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, Aneta Spajić.

"Unfortunately, in this case, even an expert in law, Marković dares to make sexist and vulgar comments about the youth and private life of a woman from public life, only depicting very clearly all the value and spiritual poverty of his own habitus," the statement said.

It is stated that Marković allows himself to discuss personal preferences, that is, their absence in relation to Spajić, which, as it is added, unequivocally makes himself an extremely comical figure.

"In this way, unfortunately, he showed that for him the disregard of women is a normalized state, in which he no longer recognizes even what he should have noticed as a man of legal science," the statement said.

For the members of the Women's Club and the Committee for Gender Equality in the Parliament, the appearance of, as it is stated, international abuse and misogyny with which the columnist Balša Knežević (portal Aktuelno.me) lashed out at the representatives of foreign missions and embassies in Montenegro is a particular surprise.

It is added that Knežević, in the author's text "Desperate housewives in the service of the 'Serbian world'", does not shy away from diplomatic scandals either.

In the text, Knežević mentioned the head of the European Union delegation, Oana Kristina Popa, and the ambassadors of the United States of America and Great Britain, Judy Rising Reinke and Karen Maddox.

"In this case, the columnist's misogyny is banally associated with an already cult series only because of its title, and abundantly seasoned with conspiracy theories, extremism and defamation of the worst kind," the statement said.

The Women's Club called on the institutions of the executive power to react, not only to protect public space, but also Montenegro as the seat of those missions and embassies.

It is stated that the only institutional avenue for women affected by such hate speech and sexism is private lawsuits and the obligation of the "writers" to prove their claims in court.

"Spajić, as well as three members of foreign missions and embassies in Montenegro, have our undivided support," says the Women's Club announcement.

From that club, they appeal to institutions and the media community to act promptly in the direction of media content regulation.

"Even when they find themselves on social networks or portals as proven and globally recognized channels of spreading hatred, misogyny and extremism," the announcement states.
