The Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro (Ombudsman) expresses concern and condemnation regarding the continued targeting, insulting and belittling of all women in the socio-political space of Montenegro, including the latest example in relation to prominent representatives of the diplomatic corps, the institution of the Protector announced.
"Unfortunately, it seems that we have become accustomed to the fact that under the guise of freedom of expression and media freedom, content that violates the rights and freedoms of citizens is also introduced. What is important to point out is that when using critical speech, which is certainly important and necessary for functioning and the strengthening of democratic processes in every country, women should be especially sensitive in the sense of refraining from misogynistic qualifications that have nothing to do with their professional activities, but on the contrary, are aimed only at insulting their dignity and harming their honor and reputation. an appeal to the media community to contribute to the fight against all forms of illegal expression and/or its incitement by consistent application of professional standards and the Law on Media," the announcement reads.
Several Montenegrin officials condemned the earlier writing of the Aktuelno portal, which inappropriately commented on the Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Montenegro Oana Kristina Popa, the Ambassador of the United States of America (USA) Judy Rising Reinke and the Ambassador of Great Britain to Montenegro Karen Maddox.
