The action of cleaning and arranging the bed of the Morača river has begun

The action of cleaning and arranging the bed of the Morača river began today in the territory of the suburban settlement Grbavci, according to the Mediabiro announcement.

The action is carried out by LLC "Protection of Space of Montenegro" and LLC "Regional Waterworks of the Montenegrin Coast", with the patronage of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism.

The implementation of that action is part of a wider activity, which, as they state, aims to implement the Project for the installation of a temporary sand embankment in the bed of the Morača River, which will take place in two phases.

They state that the first phase of the implementation of that project is activities on cleaning and arranging the bed of the Morača River and its coastal area from various illegally dumped waste, as well as the removal of all illegally erected economic facilities that are used for the illegal exploitation of sand and gravel.

It was ordered that the action should significantly contribute to the preservation of the water quality of the source of "Bolje Sestre" and is a prerequisite for the realization of the second phase of the Project, which involves the construction of a sand embankment in the bed of the Morača River.

They add that the construction of a sand embankment in the bed of the Morača river represents one of the solutions proposed by the study "Monitoring, control and protection of the source of Bolje Sestra" for preventing the further trend of decline, i.e. improving the yield of the source of "Bolje Sestre", as well as providing additional amounts of water .

The construction of the sand deposit should, as they say, raise the water level in the Morača river bed in order to confirm the scientific assumption about the cause-and-effect relationship between the water level in the Morača river bed and the abundance of the source of "Bolje Sestre".

"Both the subject study and all other scientific analyzes and studies have shown that, in addition to evident climate changes, the work carried out in the bed and on the banks of the Morača River, especially in the II protection zone of the spring, has a direct impact on the trend of the decline in the yield of the "Bolje Sestre" spring. and which are strictly prohibited by the Decision on the determination of sanitary protection zones", the announcement states.

They say that in accordance with that Decision, the Regional Waterworks has extremely responsibly implemented measures to protect the sanitary protection zone and, within the limits of its capabilities, has done and is doing everything to implement protection measures in the other two zones as well.

He sent, as he states, over 250 warning letters and reports for uncontrolled sand exploitation to the competent institutions (the Administration, i.e. the Directorate for Inspection Affairs, the Water Administration, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Tourism and Sustainable Development, i.e. the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and of Urban Planning, the Protector of Property and Legal Interests of Montenegro, the National Parks of Montenegro) and others.

"On the initiative of the Regional Waterworks, several meetings were held with the same, and several conclusions and decisions were made on that occasion. Unfortunately, there was no institutional approach to the implementation of those decisions and conclusions, that is, to stop the illegal exploitation of gravel and sand in the mentioned zone," it is added in announcement.

The implementation of today's cleaning action, as they say, raises the hope that adequate institutional action will finally begin and that the necessary quantities of water will be provided in the Montenegrin littoral during the next summer tourist season.

Only with a responsible approach and close and high-quality cooperation of all state institutions, which in their competences have contact with the policy of water supply on the Montenegrin coast, that is, through coordinated cooperation, can, as they state, overcome the unnecessary problems of orderly water supply on the Montenegrin coast, both in the next and all other years.
