Strengthening the rule of law and improving the concept of the rule of law must be the priorities of decision-makers not only for the continuation of the process of accession to the European Union (EU), but also for society as a whole, said the President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović.

She congratulated all citizens of Montenegro on December 10, International Human Rights Day.

Đurović said that the Parliament of Montenegro will be there to contribute to the affirmation and promotion of human rights with new legal solutions and initiatives, as well as to the reduction of discrimination and the correction of injustice in every sense.

"Basic human rights are the point from which all associations, organizations and states start, anywhere in the world, because man is the greatest value and his rights and freedoms are inviolable," the congratulatory message states.

Đurović said that today is an ideal opportunity to recall the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that all human beings are born free and equal.

As she said, although human rights in Montenegro are guaranteed by the highest legal act - the Constitution, this does not give the right to give up the daily struggle for their realization in practice.

"In this sense, strengthening the rule of law and improving the concept of the rule of law must be the priorities of decision-makers not only for the continuation of the EU accession process, but also for society as a whole," said Đurović.

According to her, Montenegrin history is marked by many events in which our ancestors, with superhuman efforts, managed to fight for the rights and freedoms that the General Assembly of the United Nations declared in 1948 to be the foundations on which every modern state must rest.

"Our generation must be aware that it is obliged to preserve the legacy of human rights and freedoms. We owe this to our previous and future generations, to whom we must leave a better and safer country than we found it ourselves", said Đurović.
