Riverside under water again: "Tonight we are left to the streets"

The Association for the Support of Roma and Egyptians from Beran announced that the Riverside settlement was flooded again, due to new heavy rains.

"People came out of their houses and members of the RE population living in that settlement are again threatened. This is a consequence of the fact that the settlement itself was built up to the coast of Lim, and the houses are prefabricated and the big problem is that the settlement is no longer livable and not conditional." , according to the association.

They appealed to the authorities to urgently approach the solution of the problems of the locals, and they also asked the government to get involved in everything.

Nikola Raičević from that association called on the Government to help the residents of the Riverside settlement, to finally start working on this problem, noting that in that settlement "there are a lot of children who deserve a healthy environment, healthy living conditions, housing conditions, and not to live in under such catastrophic conditions".

The executive director of the Sultan Beća association notes that the situation is alarming and that it is no longer possible to live in the settlement, and that all the authorities must be urgently involved to resolve the issue.

The Association for the Support of Roma and Egyptians emphasizes that the locals are out of their houses with their children due to the flood and that they have nowhere to sleep.

"As they were exiled from Kosovo in 1999, now because of the flood, who knows which order, they are out of their already bad prefabricated houses, so tonight they have nowhere to spend the night," they added.

They said that the locals are wondering if there is a Center for Social Work in Berane and what it is for.

"We wonder why no one from the Center has visited us and why they don't offer us help? Does the Center exist because of the vulnerable poor or to help in crisis situations. Even during the recent flood a few weeks ago, the Center did not help us," the announcement states.

The association appeals to the authorities to urgently help the locals settle somewhere and help with food, because "everyone has been evicted with the elderly, with children, and there are a large number of children".

"We make this appeal urgently, hoping that someone will hear us, because we are left to the streets tonight," the announcement concludes.
