The Association for the Support of Roma and Egyptians Berana appealed to the Government and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to urgently start solving housing problems in Riverside.
They said this after the settlement was hit by floods on Saturday, December 17 due to heavy rainfall.
"We expect the Government to urgently find mechanisms and to get involved and together we will contribute to solving this issue", pointed out from UzP Roma and Egyptians.
"The settlement is characteristic in the way that someone who made the decision at the time built the settlement, that is, the prefabricated houses, near Lim, and since then there have been constant problems of non-conditionality, unsustainability of the settlement...", the Association's press release states.
The Association thanked the Municipality of Berane, which, they say, understands their problems as locals who found refuge in Montenegro, i.e. Berane, due to the whirlwind of war events from another country.
They point out that the day before the unfortunate event, they had a meeting at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights with Sokolja Beganaj, the national coordinator for monitoring the Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians, as well as the representative of the Municipality Vanja Bubanja and Samira Jaha from the NGO "Mladi Romi".
The topic of discussion was the problems of the Riverside settlement and the necessity to build apartments for the residents of that settlement, and the municipality is willing to help, said the member of the Association, Sultan Beća.
"However, the day after the meeting, we were hit by another in a series of floods, this time worse than the last, and everyone in Montenegro saw that it was simply impossible to live here anymore," concluded Beća.
