The Center for the Study and Protection of Birds (CZIP) announced the case of the illegal shooting of wild boar on Durmitor on December 23, saying that the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management is the most responsible for "the bragging of armed nationals and foreign nationals by our nature".

"After another set of stories about the 'stable situation in the field of hunting in Montenegro', about 'undertaking all measures and activities within the scope of their competences', about 'the work of users of hunting grounds in accordance with the law', about the 'intensive work of hunting services', on 'sustainable game management', etc., served at the beginning of this month by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the Hunting Association, the citizens of Montenegro, unfortunately, received another confirmation with lightning speed that it is actually a classic cover-up of chaos, incompetence and inaction with these empty platitudes. In the heart of the protected area, a wild boar was brutally killed," the non-governmental organization announced.

"Even if we put aside the fact that it is a noble animal, which fantastically conveys a sense of pride and freedom in those rare happy moments when you manage to see it at a distance of a few kilometers, the chamois in Montenegro is actually a species protected by the wild animal under the Law on game and hunting. Therefore, the same law from platitudes which has been skillfully manipulated for years and avoids taking concrete steps and measures in who knows whose interest and for what reason," added the CZIP.

They remind that 22 months ago they proposed concrete moves and measures, with the aim of suppressing poaching in Montenegro, after the shooting of bears with cubs, another species protected by law, in Berane.

"We will remind you that we received a promise from the then Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Aleksandar Stijović, that the ministry in charge of hunting would come out with a strategy for combating poaching in Montenegro within a month. In the meantime, we also submitted a petition to the mentioned ministry with more than seven thousand signatures for the introduction of a temporary moratorium on hunting, as a primary measure that would leave room for work on sorting out the chaos in the field of hunting and implementing reforms that would give hope that in a few decades our children will be able to talk about bears, wolves, roe deer and chamois in our forests. Almost two years later - absolutely nothing of the promised has happened! We have not received a single initiative, a single proposal, measure, action... nothing," CZIP points out.

They say that it is high time that the citizens get what they pay for from the representatives of the relevant ministry.

"If Mr. Stijović did not take the ministry with him after his dismissal and if the ministry was not personalized in the image of an elder, then we believe that this institution is the most responsible for the bragging of armed nationals and foreign citizens by our nature. We believe that it is high time that the citizens of Montenegro get what they pay the representatives of this institution for - a concrete, clear and ambitious plan, based on strategic, legal and by-laws in the field of hunting, which will be only the beginning in the process of systematizing a very important area, which directly affects the management of the natural resources of our country, and in which the system does not currently exist," CZIP emphasizes.

They said that this NGO and citizens, who showed it by signing the petition, are available in terms of concrete support in the preparation and implementation of reforms in the field of hunting, both administratively and on the ground.

"Finally, we are bound to this by the international conventions that our country has signed and ratified, obligations in the pre-accession negotiations for Montenegro's entry into the European Union, but above all - love for nature and the duty to leave to future generations what is obviously not sacred for the people who organize and manage hunting in Montenegro. And in the meantime, we watch you through our binoculars and binoculars and record in our little diaries what you (didn't) do in the domain of what your job is," the CZIP concludes.
