The project "Development of beekeeping in the rural area of the Kolasin municipality" significantly increased the number of beekeepers, but also contributed to their extensive practical and theoretical education.

According to the Kolašin Beekeepers Association, they now have 50 members, while at the beginning of the project they had 38.

"Among other things, at the beginning of the implementation of the projects, our Association had only one woman, while now there are five of them, which represents a significant increase. Our goal was to encourage the development of the rural area with educational campaigns, so that younger people living in the countryside will be introduced to all the benefits that beekeeping brings with it and the opportunities to achieve a decent existence for themselves and their family members", says the Association.

They remind that the Municipality of Kolašin in its strategic documents stated agriculture as an activity which, along with tourism, is the leading branch of development in the future. Improving the development of the rural area is the general goal of the project, while the specific goal of the project is the improved utilization of the potential for honey production in the territory of the municipality of Kolašin.

Young people up to 35 years of age are recognized as the target group. A common apiary was formed for their practical training. Beekeeping equipment intended for young beekeepers was also acquired, which contained hives, bee colonies, hives... Part of the educational campaign of that project is a seminar dedicated to the importance of beekeeping.

The development of beekeeping in the rural area of the Kolasin Municipality is supported by the Regional Program of Local Democracy in the Western Balkans 2 (ReLOaD2), funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP. The ReLOaD program is implemented in partnership with 15 municipalities in five clusters, including the Tara Cluster (municipalities of Kolašin, Mojkovac and Pljevlja).
