The Chamber of Physicians strongly condemned the attack on the doctor on duty during the provision of medical assistance in the premises of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance (EMSA) in Podgorica and pointed out the need for all health institutions to have an employee protection service.
The doctor of Podgorica ZHMP, KD, was attacked last night while performing his work, for which three people were detained.
The Medical Chamber called on the competent authorities to react urgently and prosecute the perpetrator(s) of that criminal act.
As the Medical Chamber said, an attack on a doctor is not only an attack on his personal and professional integrity, but an attack on the state.
"Because the doctor acts as a representative of the state when providing medical assistance to citizens, which is undoubtedly in the national interest of every society," the statement added.
With that act, as they said from the Chamber of Medicine, the health care of all those who needed emergency medical help was at risk, which further emphasizes the bestiality and gravity of that act.
"The Chamber of Physicians insists and indicates the need for all health institutions, especially the ZHMP in Podgorica and in all regional units, to have a service for the protection of employees, as a form of security, and all with the aim of preventing such and similar unfortunate events," the announcement states.
The Medical Chamber believes that the competent authorities will act promptly, decisively and efficiently in the case in question, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
As stated, this will send a message to the public that any form of verbal, let alone physical, violence against doctors will not be tolerated, citizens will have the conditions for adequate provision of health care, and doctors and all health workers that they can feel at work safe and secure.
