The Montenegrin health system is ready in case of measles, said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Slađana Ćorić, stating that limiting the stay in collective accommodation for unvaccinated children is being considered.

In a guest appearance on the Television of Montenegro, she said that a multi-sector working group was formed last year, which, apart from the ministers of health and education, consists of representatives of UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and pediatricians.

Ćorić claims that the health system is ready in case of measles.

"We are considering limiting the stay of unvaccinated children in collective accommodation. We have repeatedly appealed to parents to allow children to be vaccinated. We are afraid of a new wave of covid and we are afraid that the health system will be under great pressure," said Ćorić, Portal RTCG reports.

She repeated that the hospital facilities are ready.

"I hope that parents will understand the importance of the vaccine and that we will reach the parents' awareness, and that this mass vaccination will start," said Ćorić and added that parents have a great responsibility.

As she stated, the state should have thought about immunization much earlier.

According to the Law on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases, parents or guardians who refuse to vaccinate children can be fined from EUR 100 to EUR XNUMX.

Data show that in the last three years, about 90 parents have paid fines, the highest being 800 euros.

"We would like to not have to think about sanctions," said Ćorić and said that if they implement some repressive measures, they will also implement them against health workers who advise parents not to vaccinate their children.
