At the proposal of the Council of the Faculty of Political Sciences, full professor prof. dr Srđan Darmanović received recognition from the University of Montenegro for his contribution to the development of scientific research work and the international positioning of the University, at the solemn session of the UCG Senate.

The recognition was presented to him by the rector of UCG, prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović.

The University reminds that Darmanović is one of the founders and the first dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the UCG, where today, as a full professor, he teaches the following courses: Introduction to Political Science, Contemporary Political Systems I, Parties and Party Systems, Political System of Montenegro Above, Contemporary Political Systems II, Comparative Transitions, Comparative European Party Systems and Comparative Regional Studies.

He is the author of the books: Distorted Democracy: The Drama of Yugoslav Post-Communism (1993) and Real-Socialism: The Anatomy of Collapse (1996). He is also the co-author of the book Authoritarianism and Democracy: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia - Institutional Framework (2003); Between authoritarianism and democracy: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia – civil society and political culture (2005), Referendum in Montenegro 2006 (2006), Elections and electoral system in Montenegro 1990-2006 (2007), Europe and Americas: Trans -Atlantic Approach to Human Rights (2015), Electoral and party system in Montenegro - perspectives of inter-party democracy (2016), Voters, parties and elections - how to democratize parties in Montenegro and Serbia? He is the author of articles in prestigious international political science journals: Journal of Democracy (Washington, USA), East European Constitutional Review (New York-Budapest), Sudosteuropa (Munich, Germany). Columnist in the former Yugoslav daily Naša Borba (1990-1997) and the Montenegrin weekly Monitor (1994-2003).

He is a visiting lecturer at the following universities: Georgetown and John Hopkins in Washington, USA, Colby University in Maine, USA, La Sapienza in Rome, Italy, Hamburg University in Germany. He is a member of the international research group of the Aspen Institute that published the report/book The Future of the Balkans (1997-98). He testified twice (1998 and 2000) as an expert before the Helsinki Commission of the US Congress.

He has been a member of the Venice Commission (International Commission for Democracy through Law) of the Council of Europe since 2005. He is also a member of the European Council on International Relations (ECFR) since 2019.

He was the Ambassador of Montenegro to the USA (2010-2016) and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of Montenegro (2016-2020).

Darmanović is the founder and former president of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM), an NGO/think tank based in Podgorica, (1998-2010), as well as a national chess master.
