The second day of the search for the 13-year-old boy NV from Herceg Novi, who was swept into the sea by a big wave the night before last night during a storm, from the location under the promenade near the "Plaža" hotel in Herceg Novi, did not yield results.
Due to the loss of daylight, the search ended at 15 p.m. and will continue tomorrow morning.
A total of nine vessels of the Maritime Safety and Port Management Authority (UPSUL), the Police Administration, the Navy of the Army of Montenegro, the Port Authority of Kotor, as well as private companies that have a contract with the UPSUL for assisting in emergency events on the sea, were searching for the missing child today. the sea.
From the air, the "bell-412" type helicopter of the Croatian Air Force searched the water area of the Topalj Bay, and RCUD divers on two occasions searched the underwater area in the immediate vicinity of the location where the boy was dragged from the land by a wave.
In the afternoon, a Frontex aircraft from Italy should fly over and search the Boke water area from the junction between Capes Arza and Oštra to the Kumborsl Strait.
Head of search and rescue service at sea in UPSUL Žarko Lukšić told "Vijesta" that the conditions during today's search were even worse than yesterday, because the waves carried by strong southwest and west winds were even bigger and more unpredictable than the previous day, and opportunities for divers in the sea are even more difficult due to strong currents and high turbidity of the sea water.
At one point, the waves even threw one of the two UPSUL scooters that search the most dangerous area ashore, but luckily the operator of that vessel was not injured.
It is being considered that tomorrow, if the weather conditions are more favorable, the team of the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology of Montenegro with a special device for ultrasound scanning of the seabed will be involved in the search for the boy's body. This so-called side scan sonar can, among other things, detect the body of a possibly drowned person at the bottom of the sea.
Earlier, Lukšić, for Colors of the Morning on Television Vijesti, said that the stabilization of weather conditions will also help in the search for the boy.
He also stated that the weather conditions were still unfavorable, but that they were somewhat better than on the first day of the search for the missing boy.
"We hope that the sea will clear up. All state institutions are involved in the search for the missing boy. Early this morning, further searches began..." Lukšić said this morning.
He then added that another rescue scooter will be involved in the search, as well as the Navy of Montenegro, the Border Police sector... They expect great help from the Army of Montenegro from the air...
"The helicopter can shoot very quickly and easily, it has optical means, cameras that can search the terrain in the land area and towards the open sea. Drones are currently not possible to use due to weather conditions," said Lukšić.
He also stated that UPSUL will hire private persons with whom it has a contract on search and rescue at sea...
"From our point of view, it is not a large search area, but the weather conditions, the turbidity of the water do not allow some activities that can be in our favor. We expect maximum commitment in the search until dark and at any time in the following days. We will not give up the action until the missing boy is found." , said Luksic.
The search for the boy was also called off yesterday shortly after 15 p.m.
Unfavorable weather conditions and loss of daylight meant that the teams of the Maritime Safety Administration (UPSUL), the police, the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service and the Regional Diver Training Center had to stop the search after several hours of searching the water area in front of Herceg Novi.
Visibility under the sea due to strong waves and currents was almost zero, so even the divers, despite their great efforts, could not be more efficient in searching the seabed.
Bad weather conditions did not allow drones and helicopters of the Army of Montenegro to be included in the action of searching the water area from the air.
Yesterday morning, Lukšić told "Vijesta" that the day before last at around 23 p.m., they were informed by the Border and Maritime Police Sector from Herceg Novi that the minor was swept away by the sea while he was with another on the promenade.
At the time, a red weather alert was in effect on the coast due to the stormy south and rain, and the competent services issued timely warnings to citizens about the danger of storms.
Gusts from the south, which were measured at the Obosnik weather station in Boka, reached speeds of up to 50 knots (almost 100 kilometers per hour) the night before last, which caused large waves to rise not only on the open sea, but also in the bay.
It is feared that one of those waves swept away a minor who was on one of the most exposed parts of the Novi promenade to the blows of the south and the sea.
"The conditions are very bad, visibility under water is poor. The rain washes the soil from the hills, leading to poor visibility. We are doing our best to find the boy. We'll be searching the underwater part until it's clear. A severe storm has been announced for tonight, and if we don't get results today, we will continue tomorrow," said Danilo Mijajlović, head of the Regional Center for Diver Training, to Herceg Novi TV yesterday.
