Minister of Education Miomir Vojinović said that the winter holiday will be extended by seven days, due to the extension of the winter tourist season.
"I call on the parents once again for understanding, bearing in mind all that the people from the tourism industry asked us for," said Vojinović.
He said at the press conference that the assessment of the Government and relevant ministries was that it is financially profitable to extend the tourist season by five working days.
"The figures will show how justified it is," said Vojinovic.
Kristina Mihailović from the Parents Association told the minister that the parents do not agree with this decision of the Government.
"The negative reaction of parents to this decision has never been greater," Mihailović said.
Vojinović, explaining the decision to postpone the second semester, said that the teaching process will not suffer and that it will be made up every day and every hour.
"We will agree whether it will be working Saturdays, sports days, or a continuation at the end of the school year. All in agreement with the directors, we will harmonize the working days," said Vojinović.
He repeated that the extension of the holidays is important for the country and for the tourist season.
"The assessment of the relevant ministries, primarily finance and tourism, is that it is financially profitable for the state to extend the season by five days. There is no reason not to trust my colleagues and what was proposed at the Government session," Vojinović said.
Vojinović said that "a large number of parents requested that the start of classes be postponed due to the tourist season".
He said that the Ministry of Education is already ready for the beginning of the second semester.
