The Parliament of Montenegro donated five thousand euros to the Children's Home Mladost in Bijela, in order to improve the conditions in which the users of the Home stay.
As announced by the Assembly, the Speaker of the Parliament Danijela Đurović visited the Mladost Children's Home today and handed over a donation.
Đurović said that she was pleased to have been given the opportunity to visit that important institution, to learn about its work and to be in the company of users and employees.
She emphasized that it is necessary to show special care for those who need it the most.
As she emphasized, society must have a special sensibility towards vulnerable categories of society, among which, of course, are the users of the Mladost - Bijela Children's Home.
"On this occasion, Đurović supported the Home's strategy, which is based on the effort to adapt life in it to the extent possible to the conditions of life in a family community," the announcement states.
Đurović said that the good functioning of the Mladost Children's Home and the ability to respond to the numerous and serious demands placed before it are of great importance for the entire social community.
As it was announced, she expressed satisfaction at learning that the conditions in which the children live are in accordance with European standards in the field of social and child protection.
Đurović pointed out that she expects it to be even better in the future, which must be the goal of all state institutions that have authority in this area.
The director of the Home, Marela Savić, thanked Đurović for the visit and the valuable donation, stressing that the donation will be useful for improving the conditions in which the users of the Home stay.
She emphasized that this is the first visit of a President of the Parliament of Montenegro to the Children's Home "Mladost" - Bijela in the last 26 years.
"Children's home "Mladost˝ - Bijela, founded way back in 1946, is an institution that cares for children deprived of parental care and children whose development is hampered by family circumstances, and is the only institution of its type in the territory of Montenegro," said Savić.
She said that the House occupies an important place in Montenegrin society.
As it was reported, Savić introduced Đurović to the space and accommodation capacities of the Home.
She stated that in the last few years extensive works have been undertaken to renovate the rooms where the children stay.
Savić pointed out that the children in the Home stay in family groups, of which there are eight in total and that they are distributed according to gender and age, as well as that in 2019, a small group community of children with developmental disabilities in Bijelo Polje was added to the institution.
"There are currently around 80 children staying in the "Mladost" Children's Home in Bijela, and a total of 94 children in the Bijelo Polje Children's Home, thirty percent of whom are children with developmental disabilities and a significant number of children with psychiatric illnesses," the announcement states.
It is added that the institution's transformation plan from 2015 implemented new services.
These services are, as stated, a day care center for children with developmental disabilities, with a capacity of 15 places, a shelter for the protection of children from domestic violence with a capacity of five places, and the National Children's SOS telephone line intended for all children in the country.
Savić said that the problem is also the lack of professional staff who would work with children, which represents a serious challenge in the work of the institution.
