On the occasion of the initiative submitted by the (NGO) "Zagrad Montenegro" to protect the Seloštak forest complex, with an area of over 238 thousand square meters, the President of the Municipal Assembly (SO) Nikšić, Nemanja Vuković, arranged a reception for representatives of the organizations that submitted, but also supported initiative, in order to consider mechanisms and procedures in the direction of protecting the mentioned area.
"First of all, we are satisfied with the adequate and timely reaction of the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Nemanja Vuković, who organized this meeting in a very short period of time. At the meeting, we agreed that the Secretariat for Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection initiates the initiation of the procedure at the Environmental Protection Agency which refers to the preparation of a study on protection. We expect, with good cooperation, an objective approach, because it is in the social interest that the Seloštak forest complex receives an adequate level of protection. We note that it is the only forest complex of beech forest that is still preserved on both sides of the road from Nikšić to the mountain plateau Konjsko, Lukavica, Kapetanovo jezero", said Ivan Đurović, president of the NGO "Zagrad Montenegro".
In addition to him and the president of the SO, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Society of Young Ecologists Nikšić and the non-governmental association "Paths of Ancestors", as well as representatives of the Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, Gordana Vujovic and Boro Vukovic, and the secretary of the SO Nikšić, Ivana Šljukić.
The NGO "Zagrad Montenegro" submitted an initiative to the president of SO Nikšić that at the next session one of the points should be the protection of the Seloštak forest complex.
"Through the forest complex stretches the main asphalt road section that leads to the increasingly attractive mountain villages of Konjsko, Lukavica and Kapetanovo lake. The appearance of the beech forest is fascinating, and with its natural uniqueness and visual characteristics, it creates an additional atmosphere for passers-by, tourists, and residents. However, due to the proximity of the frequent asphalt road that stretches through the forest, there is a great danger of illegal logging, negative impacts, devastation of the locality," the initiative states.
The protection of the mentioned forest complex, as stated, would prevent the devastation of the locality, increase the level of protection against logging, fire and other negative impacts, but would also provide a higher level of conditions for the improvement of the locality and its tourism valorization.
