Last year, 112 calls were made to the number "220.220" in Montenegro, while in 14.997 cases the engagement of various emergency services was necessary.
This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior on the occasion of February 11, the Day of the European Number "112".
"By calling this number, 55 rescue operations in the mountains were coordinated, in which 91 people were rescued, 12 of whom were Montenegrin and 79 foreign citizens," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
As a reminder, the European emergency number "112" was introduced to enable citizens in distress to call emergency services (police, ambulance and protection and rescue services), using the same number anywhere in the European Union.
The press release added that by introducing this number, Montenegro on its European journey "fulfilled an obligation that is significant from the point of view of security for all its citizens, as well as tourists".
It is added that "112" is the single point of entry for all emergency calls, through which citizens and tourists traveling through the EU "can report any emergency situation in which human lives, property or the environment are at risk, thereby maximally shortening the response time and improves the quality of the response of the competent emergency services".
"The number "112" in Montenegro is in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, on the entire territory of the country, and the ability to receive emergency calls in foreign languages (English, Italian, Russian and Albanian)" is stated in announcement of the MUP.
It is emphasized that the Operational Communication Center "112" functions on a single platform through three centers distributed in Podgorica, Bijelo Polje and Bar.
"In addition to the police, protection and rescue services and emergency medical aid, OKC112 engages numerous other services or operational forces that are related to the protection and rescue system by their activities (Army, Maritime Safety Administration, Mountain Rescue Services, divers, hunters, kayakers and others)", the announcement concludes.
