In order to reduce the gap between rich individuals and the vast majority with low incomes, the fight for the protection of the rights of workers who must be paid better for their work must be intensified, said Prava Montenegro.
On the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice, that party assesses that Montenegro welcomed that day with a deepening gap between the rich and the poor.
They said that they are fighting for social justice and pointed out the great injustice that is being done to the citizens of Montenegro with the lowest incomes.
"Many workers work for the minimum wage, even though their work performance is much higher than the wages they receive. The situation is such that a small number of wealthy individuals increasingly increase their wealth at the expense of the vast majority of employees with low incomes," announced Prava.
They emphasize that the fact that Montenegro had as many as 44.849 unemployed citizens at the end of January 2023 is of particular concern, which, they believe, is alarming when you take into account the fact that we only have 619.211 inhabitants.
They emphasize that we cannot talk about social justice in a situation where we have an ineffective system of social protection, because of which every fourth citizen and every third child in Montenegro live at risk of poverty. "On the one hand, we have officials who receive generous salaries and allowances, and on the other hand, a large number of people who need social assistance".
That party believes that social justice is important because it leads to the stability of society and improves the quality of life of all citizens. "When people have equal access to education, health care and other important areas, it allows for the creation of a stronger, healthier and more productive society as a whole".
"The data that about 200.000 citizens use some of the rights in the field of social and child protection does not show the true picture, because the number of citizens who need social assistance is much higher, but a significant number of them do not meet the strict conditions prescribed by law, so they are in an increased risk of poverty. More attention should be paid to categories of citizens who are at increased risk of poverty, such as: single parents, people with disabilities, the unemployed, and the like," the announcement states.
Prava believes that it is necessary to introduce a social card for all citizens, not only for those who use some form of social assistance, in order to be able to help everyone who needs help.
"True Montenegro pointed out numerous problems of workers of privatized companies such as: Vektra Boka, Željezara Nikšić, Kombinat aluminijuma Podgorica and the like. We chose to improve the financial position of teaching assistants and supported several initiatives such as: increasing the minimum wage, the introduction of child allowance and the like. However, there is still a lot to be done in order to be able to talk about social justice in Montenegro, and that is why we will continue to fight intensively for the improvement of the financial situation of all citizens, especially those with the lowest incomes", they emphasize from Real Montenegro.
