Extended program of temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens

The Government of Montenegro extended the temporary protection program for Ukrainian citizens residing here.

"Recognition of the innate dignity, equal and inalienable rights of all is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world," said the Minister of Human and Minority Rights Fatmir Đeka to the refugees from the Ukrainian community in Montenegro.

During a tour of the accommodation facility in Sutomore, where the refugees are staying, he noted that modern times bring with them an increase in negative social phenomena, the most severe of which are those that directly affect the area of ​​human rights protection.

"We are living in a time of great challenges when it comes to the realization of human rights, the fight against discrimination, the preservation of overall human dignity and personal integrity," said Đeka, adding that "the war against Ukraine is a war against humanity and dignity."

He reminded that Montenegro has rich experience in the sphere of protection and care of refugees during the last decades, but also experience in building a civil, multi-ethnic society as the foundation of peace and harmony in the country.

Willingness to support refugees from Ukraine was shown again, concluded at the minister's meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador Oleh Herasimenko, American Ambassador Ryzing Rajnke, Head of UNHCR Zhan Ivo Bušardi and General Director of the Directorate for Citizenship and Foreigners in the MUP Radovan Popović.

Đeka expressed the hope that conditions will be created in the near future so that everyone can return to their homes without hindrance, adding that Montenegro is the home of all the people who live in its territory.
