The Directorate for Forest and Hunting Management announced that a new illegal logging was discovered in Petnjica, in the border area with Serbia.

Damage of around 1.400 euros was caused. A misdemeanor report was filed against an unknown person, while the case with complete documentation was submitted to the Beran Prosecutor's Office and the Border Police.

"Through a joint action with the border police, on February 22, 2023, the district ranger discovered the illegal cutting of the state forest in GJ 'Mrtvica', in departments 65 and 66. Going out to the field and establishing the factual situation, it was established that ten trees were illegally cut down spruce and fir with a total gross wood mass of 12,04 m³, by an unknown perpetrator. Tracks of a cart were observed on the spot, on the basis of which it was established that the illegally cut spruce and fir trees were dragged towards the territory of Serbia, on whose side it is passable, considering that this terrain is inaccessible from the side of the territory of Montenegro. A detailed survey determined that a total of 65 spruce and fir trees were cut in section 4, with a total gross wood mass of 1,96 m³, and in section 66 a total of six spruce and fir trees, with a total gross wood mass of mass 10,08 m³. The damage caused by this illegal logging, based on the damage price list of the Administration, amounts to 1.408,68 euros," the announcement states.

The Administration said that they expect that the competent authorities will succeed in discovering and sanctioning the perpetrator. "This case is another confirmation that the border zones are a black spot for illegal activities, which is why it is necessary to focus additional attention on these areas in the future and for the control by the Border Police and our officers to be more intensive," the statement concludes.
