Adaptation and equipping of microbiological laboratories is underway in nine Montenegrin health institutions, and the project is worth around two million euros, the Ministry of Health announced.
The Ministry said that the project, which they are implementing with the support of the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, includes health centers in Bijelo Polje, Berane, Nikšić, Cetinje, Kotor, Ulcinj, Bar and Budva, as well as the special hospital Brezovik.
As they stated, the planned deadline for the completion of the works is nine months.
"With the realization of this significant investment, the quality of microbiological services will be significantly improved through infrastructural renewal and provision of adequate equipment, in accordance with the necessary standards in this area," the Ministry assessed.
They pointed out that microbiological laboratories represent the gold standard in detecting infectious diseases, resistance to antibiotics, the occurrence of infections transmitted by food and water, as well as possible cases of bioterrorism.
"Also, they represent a decisive factor for the control and prevention of infections in healthcare institutions, thus contributing to the positive outcomes of patient care," the statement added.
The Ministry said that a higher level of care for patients, more successful control and prevention of infections, as well as better monitoring results are the goal of strengthening microbiological laboratories in the health system with this project.
