The March XNUMX March, organized by the Center for Women's Rights (CŽP), under the slogan "Resistance to force and injustice" ended in the walking center of Podgorica.
Tanja Markuš, artist and coordinator of the Culture Program at that NGO, said that the experience of two thousand women who turned to the Center for Women's Rights for help shows that the institutions continue to ignore the problems.
"Even the brutal murders did not convince the institutions that they should do their job. That is why we are here, to resist that brutality, to be a society that stays away from the culture of art and knowledge. Today we are here to break fascism, misogyny, nationalism and all petty divisions and let's raise awareness that justice is available to everyone," she said at the rally on Independence Square.
British Ambassador Karen Maddox said she was proud that the country's government supported today's march.
"International Women's Day is not about giving flowers. It's about demanding that women have the same rights as men. We're in an era where people have so much freedom to express themselves, but that doesn't mean having the freedom to harm the human rights of others. We see so many examples of misogyny out in the open and often directed at women like me in public life. We may never be free of misogyny, but we can influence how our societies and governments respond to it. We have the right to be educated, to be employed, and to demand access to justice. If we don't get that, we have a right to have our voices heard," Maddox said.
The event was also attended by: President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović, Vice-President of the Parliament Branka Bošnjak, MP of the URA GP Božena Jelušić, Social Democrat MP Boris Mugoša, Head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro Oana Kristina Popa, British Ambassador Karen Maddox, Director of the Investment and Development Fund Irena Radović...
"We don't need roses and gifts. This is a day that symbolizes our strength and fight not for power but for equality. We must not allow the patriarchy to continue at that pace. If we fight for what we believe in in a clear and quality way, then others should join us. Don't trip up your sisters. And we will, we will respect other people's opinion as long as it does not endanger mine, yours..." said artist and activist Ivana Stanić.
A walk is planned along Freedom Street, then Petr Cetinjski Boulevard, which will take you to the Blaž Jovanović Bridge, and then along Stanko Dragojevića Street and Bokeška Street back to Independence Square.
