The European Commission (EC) supported the Institute for Medicines and Medical Devices of Montenegro (CInMED) to become a member of the International Forum of Regulators of Medical Devices, CInMED announced.
It is stated that CInMED continues to expand the network of its international partners in the field of medical devices as well.
Director of CInMED Snežana Mugoša and her deputy Mira Kontić are attending the official meeting of the International Forum of Medical Devices Regulators (IMDRF) held in Brussels.
IMDRF is an international organization of medical device regulators united to create a strong and unified regulatory framework and promote effective models to respond to growing challenges to protect public health and patient safety.
"In addition to the highest representatives of the EC, the meeting is attended by representatives of all IMDRF member states, i.e. the most influential European and world regulators, such as the drug agencies of the USA, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, China, Australia," the statement said.
The representatives of CInMED, as stated, made significant contacts and exchanged opinions regarding its development path.
"Following the talks at the highest level, IMDRF chairman Andrzej Rys called for CInMED to become a full-fledged member of the family of international regulators in the field of medical devices," the statement said.
The representatives of CInMED thanked for the invitation and emphasized that they will undertake the necessary activities in order to gain membership in this international organization as soon as possible.
"In this way, CInMED will have the opportunity to contribute to and influence the regulation and harmonization of standards in this area at the international level," the announcement says.
Mugoša said that the achievements in the field of medical devices, i.e. the introduction of extremely sophisticated new technologies in the treatment of the most complex diseases, are pushing the boundaries of conventional medicine.
"Therefore, we must broaden our horizons and be ready for the future brought by scientific and technological development, but also introduce measures that ensure the highest standard of protection for our patients," Mugoša said.
