Old woman in trouble, postman does not bring money: Part of the "church" is gone by the time it reaches the bank

Milka Rnković (85) from the village of Starče claims that she can withdraw the "disability allowance" only at the bank.

She says that she is forced to spend part of the "church" on a taxi, or to have someone else drive her to Kolašin, 35 kilometers away, in order to withdraw money from the bank, because the postman no longer brings it to her.

"I pay a lot for a taxi, a large part of that income goes to me." I lose the whole day, and at home I have a 53-year-old cousin who I have been taking care of all my life and who is in a very bad state of health. Since the end of last year, I have to go to the city for that 'church'. Age and financial situation no longer allow me to go to the city so often. That's why I sometimes borrow money from neighbors, so I go every second or third month".

She says that there is a post office in Gornja Morača and that she knows that pensions, social benefits and other benefits are brought by the postman.

The old woman says that "only someone without feelings could decide that disability benefits are received at the bank".

"It would mean a lot to me if the regulations were different, so that I didn't have these additional costs and efforts that are too great for me as a patient. How come those who make regulations don't think about how I can get to Kolašin? I'm not the only one in this situation, I'm sure".

Director of the Mojkovac and Kolašin Center for Social Work, Sonja Damjanović, clarified that Rnković is not a beneficiary of disability benefits, but receives income based on family accommodation.

That type of income, unlike others, she said, is paid exclusively through the bank.

"This is, among other things, due to the prevention of abuses, that is, the prevention of receipts arriving late or being picked up by another person, which happened before. We transfer the money to the bank around the 20th, along with the list of beneficiaries... Given that Rnković addressed me as well, expressing objections to the method of receiving compensation, I explained everything to her. Also, realizing that she is an old woman and that she lives in a remote village, I explained that another person can authorize her to withdraw the fee from her bank account," said Damjanović.
