The National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) announced that a record amount of illegal funds was seized in the Skadar Lake National Park.

As stated in the announcement, among the seized assets are batteries, electrical converters, probes and lamps used for illegal fishing.

The action was carried out in the joint cooperation of the Protection Service of the Skadar Lake National Park, the Marine Unit of the Police Administration and the director of JPNPCG Vladimir Martinović.

After the action, as stated in the announcement, the issue of removing illegal rafts and facilities used for illegal activities will be considered. The owners of those buildings, it added, will be given a reasonable time to remove them, after which they will be removed from state property.

"I hope that the non-governmental sector and the institutions of the system will never again be on different sides in issues related to the environment and natural resources of Montenegro. Just as I hope that we have definitely entered a phase where the adjective "ecological" will not be just a dead letter on paper, but that in all our future strategies it will represent an unquestionable condition and a sincerely respected constitutional obligation," said Martinović.

NPCG reminded that there is a fishing ban on all types of fish and aquatic organisms except eel, which started on March 15 and lasts until May 15.

The Public Company for National Parks of Montenegro launched the "Stop Poaching" campaign with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preserving the fish stock and biodiversity of Skadar Lake NP.

They appealed to citizens to report any irregularities they notice in the park to the number 067/000-825. Off-market and illegal fish sales can be reported to the Municipal Police at 067 002 005.
