The President of the Kotor Municipal Assembly, Maja Mršulja, announced that she condemns the most primitive, vandalistic act of the people who, in the night between Sunday and Monday, demolished the steps of the Church of the Virgin in Prčanje.
"The fact that they dared to destroy what is a protected cultural monument, what is a part of the sanctuary, says what kind of persons they are," the statement of the Municipality of Kotor states.
"I call on the competent authorities to urgently find the culprits of this unfortunate event and sanction them in accordance with the law, so that nothing similar would happen again in the city that is under the protection of UNESCO," the announcement concludes.
We remind you that in Prčanje the balustrade on the monumental staircase of the Church of the Virgin Mary (Church of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was damaged, and two capitals on the pillars of the staircase near the statue of Jesus below the church were broken off.
The Kotor police have identified a minor suspected of damage, who was allegedly in a drunken state at the time he damaged the balustrade, and there are no nationalistic or religious intolerance motives behind his inappropriate action.
