The facility promised to the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences (CANU) near the Millennium Bridge, in which over six million euros have been invested, will soon be occupied by certain government bodies, while academics will still have to wait for adequate space to work.

The competition for the conceptual design of the new building, the construction of which will again be financed by the citizens, was announced last week. The new facility will be built near Gorica, on the site where the Academy building is now.

The Government responded that part of the Montenegrin judiciary will move into the unsuspecting Academy building.

"The building, as previously announced, is intended for judicial institutions since it was agreed that CANU will remain at its current location with adaptations of the building that need to be specified," the Government Press Bureau told "News".

CANU General Secretary Dragan Radonjić told "Vijesta" that the Government presented to the academics last year that part of the building's space was needed for part of the state administration. Radonjić did not specify which state administration bodies were in question.

"We told the government representatives that it is not appropriate for academics to work in the same space with civil servants. That's why an agreement was reached to build a new facility on the existing location, where the Academy building has been for five decades, and it was decided that during this year we will call for a tender for the development of the conceptual solution, which was recently announced," said Radonjić.

According to him, it is not known when the construction of the new building near Gorica will begin, but the money for it will be determined in the capital budget. "After the contest for the conceptual solution is over, we will have calculations of how much it will cost, and then, in cooperation with the Government and the possibilities in the capital budget, we will plan the dynamics of the construction", pointed out Radonjić.

In 1997, the Parliament of Montenegro passed a decision on the financing of the construction of a new Academy building near Millennium. The Academy signed a protocol on cooperation with the Government in 2010, and in the same year it signed a construction contract with the company "Kroling". The construction of this facility is in the final phase.
