The work on the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant is progressing according to plan and 75 percent of the construction work has been completed so far.

This was said by the executive director of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, Nikola Rovčanin, who visited the works today with the Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Ana Novaković. They also visited the dam in Otilovići, where a small hydropower plant is planned to be built.

"As early as 2025, we will have a complete plant. This project is perhaps one of the most valuable that is currently being carried out in Montenegro, bearing in mind that they cost, including VAT, around 75 million euros. The equipment that arrived is worth 8,6 million euros and the next tranche will be more than 15 million euros. In the coming days, the first part of the workforce from Pljevlja will be engaged in this project. According to the investor's promise, more than 200 workers will be hired in different phases. This is something very important for Pljevlja, considering the structure of the unemployed," said Rovčanin.

Speaking about the heating project in Pljevlja, Rovčanin said that the preparatory work will start next week and preparations will be made on the route over the Pliješ hill.

"The first phase is financed by EPCG in the amount of 2,5 million euros, and the second and third phases are planned in the budget. What is important is the synchronization of these two investments. We will have ecological reconstruction in full capacity in accordance with all EU directives and that after 40 years we will finally solve the problem of air pollution in Pljevlja with the heating project. So that the citizens of Pljevlja will breathe at full capacity during 2025," said Rovčanin.

He also announced the construction of a small hydropower plant in Otilovići, which would cost around 4,5 to XNUMX million euros.

"We lose about 1,8 million euros annually due to the lack of a hydropower plant in Otilovići. There is a dam, and according to some calculations, the hydropower plant in Otilovići would cover about 75 percent of Žabljak's needs. "It is small, but it is important for Elektroprivreda and the Municipality of Pljevlja," said Rovčanin.

Novaković Đurović said that the started works will be finalized in two years, which, she believes, is not a long period.

"At the same time, the heating project, which the government declared a project of public interest, is being implemented. By declaring it a project of public interest, we accelerated the administrative procedures and we are already talking about the implementation of the first phase, and we can have the project for the second phase at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Both projects can be realized by 2025. The government has initiated the procedure for issuing Urban Development Conditions, and the final decision depends on the opinions of all institutions that are in the process of obtaining them. I think we will finally have information soon," Novaković Đurović said.
