With the decision to re-elect Boris Raonic as the General Director of Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG), the members of the Council of that media house showed that they do not care about the judgment of the public, the Media Institute announced.

They invited the Public Service to announce a new competition and appoint an acting general director.

"With the decision of the Council of RTCG to re-appoint Boris Raonic as general director of RTCG, despite the final judgment of the High Court that he was appointed to that position without appointment, the members who supported such an election cast doubt on the public whose interests they represent in a media company of key importance for democratization of society. Four of the six Council members present voted for the decision to re-appoint Raonic, one ballot was invalid, while Milica Špajak and Council Vice-President Marijana Camović Veličković, in opposition to such a proposal, did not vote," the Institute states.

Bearing in mind the importance of RTCG for society, pluralism, freedom of expression, public dialogue, free and fair elections, the Institute points out, with this decision the Council calls into question the basic principles of work: autonomy, independence from political centers, transparency of work and the choice of management structures .

"The responsibility of the members who put Raonic's re-election on the agenda will be judged by the public or the court, although the citizens are deprived of the explanation and motives of such a decision, which, unfortunately, leads to the conclusion that the public does not care about the court.

"By announcing a new competition and appointing an acting general director from among the employees, until the election of a new one, RTCG would prove that it respects the laws, defends the mission of the public service and promotes institutional autonomy, editorial independence and transparency of work", concludes the Media Institute.
