The Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) said that, despite numerous reports, there is no reaction from the competent institutions due to the devastation of Mareza, part of the protected nature park "Zeta River Valley".
They said that the CZIP team, during regular bird monitoring activities in the area of Mareza, noticed a series of activities that have harmful consequences for the ecosystem of that area.
"Intensive construction, especially of office buildings and warehouses, is turning this suburban oasis into an industrial center. In the state-owned part of Mareza, construction work was observed without a clearly marked board with information about the type of work being carried out in that area. In addition to construction work, actions of filling plots with construction waste were also observed in order to form elevated surfaces that can later be used for the construction of buildings on that area. The section along the Podgorica-Danilovgrad boulevard is particularly at risk, where day after day, the filling of flood meadows is actively being done," it is pointed out. in the announcement.
Also, as they said, numerous wild landfills pollute and spoil the appearance of the habitat, which is part of the protected area of the nature park.
"The situation is not better even in the area where the ring station 'Mareza' is located, which is run by the CZIP, and where the destruction of the habitat is obvious. Roads are being cut through the vegetation, trees are cut and stolen for firewood, as well as intensive filling of meadows. Poaching is still one of the problems that is present in this area, especially the killing of protected species of birds such as white storks, barn owls, and these are only some of the cases recorded in previous years. That the problems are obvious and that it is necessary to solve them as soon as possible is indicated by citizens who live in this area, and who addressed the CZIP in the previous period," the organization states.
It is evident, they believe, that there is no will to solve these problems, which is "easily inferred from the lack of response" to the reports that CZIP submitted to the construction inspection, the Municipal Police, the Directorate for Inspection Affairs and the manager of that area, the Agency for the Management of Protected Areas in Podgorica .
"We appeal to the above-mentioned institutions to react as soon as possible in order to prevent further devastation of this important area and so that Mareza does not become another example of an area that is protected only on paper," the statement concludes.
