Residents of BIjedić and the surrounding towns still today blocked the highway Bijelo Polje - Prijepolje, in the town of Konatari, demanding the termination of the contract on the construction of a quarry in that famous archaeological site.
Krsto Tvdišić, representative of the civic initiative "Protect Bijedića", said that the locals are determined to preserve the environment, the site and what they got from their ancestors, for future generations.
"The institutions are still silent on our appeals and requests. Nothing was done transparently in this business, as claimed by the Minister of Capital Investments, Ervin Ibrahimović. The concessionaire company 'Elas' caused immeasurable damage, but Ibrahimović calls the devastation of nature and sites transparent, while "No one was responsible for the damage. The institutions that issued the permits did not do the job properly. The machine is still standing where it shouldn't be," said Tvrdišić.
The locals say that the concessionaire cannot hope to continue the business, and neither can those who gave him the approval.
"We are telling them that their hopes are in vain. We, the residents of Bijedić, Voljavac, Podbrež and the surrounding towns, will not allow any more devastation, destruction of nature, water and properties on which we have lived for generations. No blackmail, threats to individuals from the GI 'Protect Bijedić', with us they do not pass. We will not give up our demands and we will defend ours if necessary with our lives", said Tvrdišić.
The locals remind us that they have been waiting for years for the construction of roads, bridges, and electricity in these neglected places. They are asking for the urgent repair of the road that, as they said, the concessionaire Šućro Omerović destroyed, as well as the withdrawal of the machines.
