In order to strengthen the capacities of non-governmental organizations in Montenegro that deal with issues of gender-based violence, a two-day training was held for volunteers and activists. The training was organized as part of the project "Education and economic empowerment of vulnerable groups of women and girls in Montenegro - EKOS" which is implemented by Zavod Krog from Slovenia, in partnership with the non-governmental association "Impuls" from Nikšić and the NGO "Ikre" from Rožaj.
Expert lecturers were from Slovenia who shared "knowledge, experience and best practices from Slovenia in the field of gender-based violence" through lectures, workshops and group discussions.
"And the trainers who led the training left a special positive impression on the participants with their energy and expertise. The training was interactive and adapted to the specific needs of the participants. The training represents an important step towards strengthening the capacity of the NGO sector in Montenegro in facing the challenges of gender-based violence It will enable the participants to acquire the expertise and skills needed to provide support to victims of violence, as well as to be active participants in the prevention and protection of women's human rights. This is confirmed by the statements of the training participants, who already say after the first session that the program brings news, fresh ideas and new knowledge", reads the press release.
As stated, the training covered various topics related to gender-based violence, including various forms of violence, and the participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the available resources in the community for the realization of the rights of victims of violence, as well as to be informed about human rights and international mechanisms. and instruments for the protection of women's human rights.
"The goal is to train trainers to provide quality support to women and girls who are victims of violence, as well as to work on raising awareness of the importance of prevention and protection of women's human rights", stated the organizers of the training, which was the first of three planned modules.
The project, which will last until September 2025, is financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, and foresees action in five municipalities of Montenegro - Rožaje, Nikšić, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Plav.
In addition to training, campaigns, forums, round tables and workshops, cooperation with local NGOs, as well as with local public institutions are also planned in order to integrate the mentioned topic into local strategic plans.
