The non-governmental organization (NGO) 35 mm announced that this NGO strongly condemns the constant online attacks on the M portal, which have been going on for almost a year.
"We believe that the competent authorities have not done enough and that there is no adequate punishment for those who sow hatred and those who threaten journalists," it added.
"Encouraged by messages from the top of the government, which targets all those who do not think like them, from the abyss of anonymity of social networks and the Internet, new "heroes" emerge every now and then, and the old ones are encouraged. It is one thing to disagree with the editorial policy of the media, but no one should to give oneself the right to threaten, attack, threaten security in any form - because it is an attack on freedom, social organization, democracy, and thus on every individual in society," states the statement signed by Darko Ivanović, executive director of NGO 35mm .
They pointed out that the inaction of the authorities in the other media creates an atmosphere of fear, because media freedom is the foundation of a democratic society and a key factor in preserving the transparency and responsibility of the executive power.
"The NGO 35mm has been advocating for media freedom, democracy and human rights for years and calls on the competent authorities to urgently protect the editor of the M portal, Danica Nikolić, as well as to do everything within their competence, in order to create a safe and respectful online environment for everyone." it is written in the announcement.
They said that this support is essential in the fight to preserve media freedoms and the rights of journalists.
