The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, and the Mayor of Trebinje, Mirko Ćurić, signed an agreement on cooperation today.
The agreement was signed at Vučje dol, where the famous battle took place on July 28, 1876, in which Montenegrins, Brđa and Herzegovinians won a decisive victory in the Montenegrin-Turkish war.
"In accordance with mutual public interest in the development of local communities, cooperation between Nikšić and Trebinje will take place in the fields of culture, economy, tourism, sports and education. Through the exchange of information, experiences and good practices, official cooperation in various fields of social activity will contribute to the expansion of business opportunities , preservation and promotion of cultural-historical heritage and tourist potential," announced the Municipality of Nikšić.
As they stated, the signatories agreed that there is a strong, unbroken historical connection between Nikšić and Trebinje and rich opportunities for their cooperation in the application of innovative solutions and the realization of concrete projects, based on creative ideas.
"The agreement stipulates that the signatories undertake the obligation to carry out the twinning procedure of the Municipality of Nikšić and the City of Trebinje. This cooperation represents an opportunity for development, confirmation of friendship and the continuation of old common aspirations," the press release states.
Before signing the agreement, Kovačević, together with his chief of staff Marko Perućica, laid a wreath at the memorial to the heroes of Vučedol.
