A large-scale fire has reactivated in Lovćen National Park, and the fiery element threatens to threaten the Konjsko zone, where there is a valuable beech forest, the National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) announced.
"Tonight, the fire engulfed Treštenik, Majstore and Hum, when it comes to localities within the boundaries of the Park. All firefighting activities are coordinated by the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Interior Ministry. The Protection Service of NP Lovćen, in cooperation with the Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City, is making maximum efforts in order to Firefighting units from Kotor, Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Petnjica, as well as members of the Montenegrin Army and local residents, participate in extinguishing the fire, in addition to the Lovćen National Park Protection Service and the Prijestonica Protection and Rescue Service," the NPCG said.
In the afternoon, the director of JPNPCG Elvira Klica and the director of NP Lovćen Veselin Živanović visited the burned areas in the afternoon, as well as the general director of the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the MUP Mirsad Mulić together with the mayor of Prijestonica Cetinje Aleksandar Bogdanović.
"A special problem is created by the increased intensity of the wind, which continues to cause small-scale fires in places. Due to the thick smoke, it was not possible to use airplanes to extinguish the burning areas tonight," the NPCG announced.
They add that due to the strength of the wind, there is a danger that the fire will spread to the locality of Konjsko.
"The Konjsko zone with tall and old beech stands, covering an area of about 400 hectares, is located in the southwestern part of the Park. The beech forest in this zone is multifaceted, especially as an object of research, education and tourist-recreational character."
