There was dancing everywhere. On the streets, squares, in restaurant gardens, in the Biogradska gora National Park, at the Kolašin 1600 ski resort... So 16 days of carnival atmosphere, during the recently closed Tango camp in Kolašin, describes the main coordinator of that event, Nemanja Stojković.
The last day of the event was marked by a big creative picnic on the town square - over two hundred participants of the event who stayed in Kolašin on the last day, colored the city with song, dance and various other activities.
"This year, we surprised Kolašin with a large number of innovations. We want to show all the ways we can enjoy together, be creative and abandon the consumerist lifestyle. Flash mobs, large public classes, dancing in the street, socializing in public areas in the shade of trees, concerts with socializing, singing and dancing in the park, learning skills like tumbling and juggling, or returning to good old badminton are all options that bring joy to our lives for free. Parks and streets are public spaces whose culture depends on those who use them. They don't have to be big events on the square. We love it even more when it looks like dance and creativity are the ways this city lives every day. We wanted to inspire Kolašin and Montenegro in that direction," said the founder of the Tango camp, Darko Dožić.
Kolašin saw off hundreds of lovers of Argentine tango and active vacations from all over the world. According to the organizers, the return of the biggest festival in the north of Montenegro has brought Kolašina a summer that the city has not had since 2018, after which there was a five-year break in holding the event.
Seven hundred participants from 35 countries took part in the ninth Tango Camp, with an average stay of eight and a half days, and "they made Kolašin a real "tango city". The organizers from Tango Natural Montenegro point out that, despite the five-year break, this year's edition of the Tango camp equaled the old attendance records and announce the further growth of this unique event in the coming years.
"It turned out again and again that the guests of the Tango camp are the kind of tourists that Kolašin had been waiting for for a long time, since they stayed there even longer than the duration of this sixteen-day event. Despite numerous adventures that include nature, the dancers spent most of their time in the city, unlike the usual transit tourists," says Stojković.
According to Duško Raketić, one of the organizers, "it is difficult to measure the significance of that event." As he explains, attractive materials that combine dance with Montenegrin natural beauty are becoming viral on social networks, promoting Kolašin and our country around the world.
"Dancers are guests, but also an unusual tourist offer. The tango camp brings with it a large number of accompanying programs that can be enjoyed free of charge by everyone who happens to be in the city at that moment," says Raketić.
This event, unique in many respects, offered a whole series of exciting activities during 16 days and nights. Along with tango lessons, Argentine folk dances, singing and guitar workshops, event participants and other guests of Kolašin enjoyed sport climbing, cycling, archery, mountaineering, yoga, relaxation programs, horseback riding and numerous creative programs for children.
"Thanks to the return of the Tango camp and its many contents, Kolašin is returning to the process of establishing itself as a place of creative vacation, specific and different from other tourist places in Montenegro," explains Dožić.
The festival was organized with the support of the Municipality of Kolašin and the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism.
