The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, congratulated the citizens of Gusinje, the President of the municipality, Anela Čekić, the President of the Municipal Assembly, Bujar Hasanđekaj, and the city councilors on the Day of the Municipality.
"The value foundations of the municipality of Gusinje are identical to those on which the state of Montenegro was built. With the victory of the anti-fascist forces, led by the Fifth Proletarian Brigade, the freedom of the inhabitants of that region was defended and a great contribution was made to the overall People's Liberation Struggle, but also to the development of the modern European perspective of our country. Gusinje is often was a meeting place of different cultures, which always found a model for coexistence, thus creating an authentic multicultural and multiethnic environment, but also the recognition of this region for its hospitality and cordiality for all who come," stated Milatović.
He said that throughout history this municipality has been a place of significant economic potential, ever since the caravan route that connected Skopje and Dubrovnik and passed through Gusinje. In addition, the enviable number of merchants and craftsmen in the XNUMXth century speaks of the entrepreneurial thread woven into the mentality of this place.
"He is happy that, since the restoration of the status of a municipality, Gusinje strives to valorize its tourist potential, which makes a significant contribution to infrastructure projects that enable cross-border economic cooperation. In these aspirations, it is important to highlight Prokletije, which is increasingly becoming one of the centers of ecotourism in our country. Vodna and the forest resources and fertile land of this region represent the basis for the development of tourism, agriculture, energy and are of key importance for the development of Gusinje and the survival of people in this region," said Milatović.
He concluded that he believes that, through the cooperation of the institution of the President of Montenegro, the executive authorities, local self-government, and with the involvement of the diaspora, it is possible to achieve the goals of revitalizing economic activity in Gusinje.
