The Independent Police Union announced that the Decision on the assignment, by which the President of the Independent Police Union of Montenegro, Igor Rmandić, after 27 years of active police service, is being assigned from Herceg Novi to work in Bijelo Polje and the manner in which it was done, is a precedent and a "procedure that will many organs and institutions of the state of Montenegro have to deal with".
Transferring officials from the south to the north at the height of the tourist season, when the south receives help from the north, it added, goes against sound logic.
"Moving an employee 250 kilometers away from home, without his consent, is a direct violation of the Labor Law and a blow to the livelihood of the employee and his family," the statement said.
Neither the police officer nor his superiors in Herceg Novi and Bar, as reported, were not informed or consulted about this.
"Everything was done in secret, we can say cowardly and insidious, but knowing the characteristics of the first Montenegrin policeman (and soldier at the same time), this does not surprise us in the least. We would have been taken aback if he had found the courage to call us, look us in the eye and tell us personally everything he has. Like this, nothing new from him," the statement said.
By introducing this practice, police officers are brought, as the union said, to a state of constant pressure, insecurity and fear that, even if they do not make any mistake in their service, they could be moved 100, 200 or more kilometers from their homes and their families.
"And the easiest way to manipulate fear is the obvious intention of these great security experts and reformers of the police service. The Independent Police Union of Montenegro will use all the legal means at its disposal to protect not only every member of the union but also every MUP officer who suffers persecution, harassment or mobbing at his workplace. This country must be a country of law and justice and not the private property of up-and-coming politicians for whom the minister's chair is the first job in life," the statement added.
