After the floods that hit the municipality of Bijelo Polje on Saturday, the NGO "Euromost" from Bijelo Polje called on the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, as well as its citizens, to take seriously the weather disasters that await them in the coming period, pointing to a big problem - illegal buildings that have been built next to the rivers Lim, Bistrica, Ljuboviđa...
"We call on citizens not to build illegal structures next to rivers and tributaries, not to disturb riverbeds and not to dispose of waste on tributaries, because they will cause great harm to themselves and others, and in this way will endanger lives," said the NGO. .
They also invited the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, the Municipal Police and the Secretariat for Inspection Affairs, to become more actively involved in solving that problem.
"We ask that the plan for defense against disasters and floods be published immediately on the municipality's website, which the citizens would be familiar with. The municipality of Bijelo Polje must immediately start cleaning all tributaries in all places, both urban and suburban, as well as rural areas, as well as rivers and their banks, and all waste must be removed from them and their spills must be dealt with, and all those who continue to dispose of waste will be fined and publicly announce the name and surname of the violator", they say from "Euromost", adding that everyone must understand that climate change has occurred and that it is necessary to start solving the mentioned problems, because the damage and consequences can be catastrophic.
They also appeal to the Government of Montenegro, the relevant line ministries, as well as all state institutions, to become more actively involved in helping the municipalities in the north of Montenegro, which are facing floods and will certainly face them in the future.
