The European Confederation of Trade Unions (ECS) sent a letter to Prime Minister Dritan Abazović regarding anti-union discrimination against the President of the Independent Police Union of Montenegro (NSPCG), Igor Rmandić.
"Our member, the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro (USSCG), informed us about a recent case of anti-union discrimination directed against the president of the Independent Police Union of Montenegro (NSPCG), Mr. Igor Rmandić. EKS is aware that the current regulations in Montenegro prohibit discrimination on any basis, including trade union activity and association," reads the letter from EKS.
The letter states that, according to the knowledge of the EKS, the members of the NSPCG have been exposed to anti-union discrimination, pressure and intimidation since their establishment, which has now turned into gross discrimination against the president of this union.
They say that USSCG informed them about the recent "illegal" transfer of Igor Rmandić to a remote workplace.
"Mr. Rmandić also informed us in writing that he was pressured by high-ranking government officials because of the public statements he made as a trade union leader," it added.
The EKS demanded an immediate stop to any anti-union discrimination, especially the persecution of the president and members of the Independent Police Union of Montenegro (NSPCG).
"We ask you to guarantee the full right to freedom of speech for everyone, especially for union representatives such as Igor Rmandić, president of the NSPCG," concludes the EKS letter.
EKS also sent letters with the same content to the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, the Minister of Internal Affairs, as well as the Acting Director of the Police Directorate.
