At the border crossing between Montenegro and Serbia, Dobrakovo, the import of almost ten tons of peaches and nectarines was prevented, in which a pesticide dangerous to the health of people, especially children - chlorpyrifos - was found.

Today, this pesticide was also found in plums imported from Serbia to Croatia, as reported by the regional media.

Director of the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs Vladimir Đaković told the RTCG portal that in Montenegro the use of that pesticide is strictly prohibited, and that in the previous period almost ten tons of stone fruit containing that substance were found on import.

There are two disputed shipments, both sent from Serbia.

"This pesticide is very dangerous and banned in Montenegro, and I responsibly claim that it is not available in our country. The producers do not use it for food. However, the import situation is different, at the Dobrakovo border crossing, around ten tons of peaches and nectarines were discovered with this pesticide. and that was all returned," Đaković explained.

He says that analyzes are done on all edible fruits - peaches, plums, nectarines and apricots.

"We are analyzing 400 pesticide residues, which is a huge amount. All fruit has been examined," said Đaković for the RTCG portal.

The pesticide is often used to protect palm trees and other plants, but it must not be used for food because it is dangerous for human health, especially children.
