First grade students in Piva were given school bags as a gift by the Municipality of Plužina

The municipality of Plužine provided school bags to all first grade students this school year. Until two years ago, the Municipality provided free textbooks to all primary school students, and now the state does it.

"Since 2006, the municipality of Plužine has provided free sets of textbooks and school bags for all students of the first grades of elementary schools in the territory of Piva, while in 2016 it made a decision that other elementary students also have free books for school. The state has applied this model for the last two years as well finances the purchase of books for elementary school students," the local administration pointed out.

In the past, there was a school in Piva, in almost every village, either as a parent institution or as a regional department. Today, in addition to the Educational Center in Plužine, under whose roof there are secondary and elementary schools, there are also schools in Stabne and Donji Brezne.

This school year, only 14 students were enrolled in the first grade - 13 of them in the Education Center in Plužine, while in the elementary school "Bećko Jovović" in Stabne, one student is a champion. The "Bajo Pivljanin" school in Donji Brezni does not have a single student attending the first grade this year.

"In the home school in the Education Center, nine students are enrolled in the first grade of elementary school, while one student is enrolled in the Goransko and Smriječno district departments and two in Borkovi", the local administration told "Vijesta".

This school year, 143 students were enrolled in primary schools in Piva, six less than the year before. There are 127 of them in the Plužine Education Center, 11 in Stabne and five in Donji Brezne.

The number of students in primary education in the Plužine municipality is decreasing year by year. While the school year 2003/04. there were 327 primary school students in 2013/14. almost a hundred less, 233, this school year, 2023/24, there will be 143.
