The Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) donated field equipment to the Border Police in Tuzi in order to improve the working conditions of that institution during the suppression of illegal activities in the Skadar Lake National Park (NP) and the protection of the area's waters, PR Center reports.
The head of the Program for representation, communication and education in CZIP, Marija Lekić, explained that the donation followed a meeting held in August last year with representatives of the Border Police regarding the protection of the Skadar lake NP water area.
"CZIP managed to get water-resistant shoes and clothes. In addition to the donation that we handed over to the Border Police today, the CZIP previously donated equipment for the night search of the terrain to the Skadar Lake NP Protection Service, in order to help them suppress illegal activities that are largely expressed in the border zone of Skadar Lake," said Lekić. in a statement for the PR Center.
She explained that the illegal activities that take place on the lake affect the disturbance of pelicans, thus preventing their nesting and leaving the colony.
"This donated equipment is a small sign of attention to the Border Police and we hope that it will make it much easier for them to deal with various illegal activities on a daily basis, which will directly affect the improvement of the situation with regard to pelicans on the lake," said Lekić.
She pointed out that this donation did not stop support for all the hard-working people who are fighting poaching on Lake Skadar.
"The new leadership of the National Parks, headed by people engaged in the protection service, shows enviable results, which encourage the CZIP to focus all its attention on providing support to their rangers in the coming period," Lekić pointed out.
Miomir Roćen, assistant commander at the Podgorica border police station, pointed out that the donated equipment will be of significant use in their future work.
"We will use the equipment in order to achieve even better results in terms of suppressing all types of cross-border crime, as well as other illegal activities," said Roćen.
He thanked CZIP for the donation, stating that they have a successful cooperation and partnership relationship with that organization.
The equipment was acquired through the project "SOS Skadar Lake - Keeping the Montenegrin Wilderness Wild" supported by the Partnership Fund for Endangered Ecosystems (CEPF), whose project goal is the long-term protection of the Skadar Lake National Park.
