The President of Democratic Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić, said, in his congratulatory message on the occasion of Nikšić Municipality Day, that on September 18, 1944, the light of freedom ignited an unquenchable fire under Trebjes, paying tribute to the heroic spirit of the people of Nikšić in their resistance against fascism and glorifying the sacrifice of all those who bravely stood in defense of their homeland.
"This day, which marks the liberation of Nikšić from the occupiers, is not only a significant date in the historical calendar," said Bečić in his congratulatory message.
This date is also, he added, a symbol of resistance, pride and revival.
"On behalf of Democratic Montenegro, and on my own behalf, I send sincere congratulations to the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Mr. Marko Kovačević, the President of the Municipal Assembly, Mr. Nemanja Vuković, as well as to all citizens of Nikšić on the occasion of September 18 - Municipality Day," said Bečić.
In today's time, he said, filled with challenges and uncertainties, our sacred obligation is to preserve the ideal of freedom, which was presented to us through the sacrifices of our ancestors.
"Let's preserve this ideal as the most sacred trust, as a bridge between the past we keep in our memory and the future we build," said the Democratic president.
He added that today Nikšić is much more than a municipality, it is the center of university life, cultural heritage and sports spirit.
"As such, the city becomes a nursery of knowledge and innovation, a source of new ideas and projects that promise a brighter future for all of us," announced Bečić.
In this endeavor, he stated, municipal institutions are key partners to citizens, bringing numerous projects aimed at improving the quality of life, through generating new income and strengthening social cohesion.
"Let this day be an incentive for new successes and a permanent reminder of the anti-fascist values that unite us," added Bečić.
